2000 Match Play Title Decided in Overtime

Randy Hagen came from behind to edge Dave Sisler 1up on the first extra hole at     Port Ludlow Resort Golf Course on Sunday, October 22, 2000 to capture the 4th TBI Match Play Championship.  This was  the first time the title has been decided in extra holes.

This year's tournament was closely contested, with 47 out of 63 matches decided after the 16th hole. Randy won his last four matches on the 18th hole or beyond, including the title tilt in extra holes and and a 20-hole quarterfinal victory. 

In the Championship match, Dave held a 1up lead after the first (Tide) nine. During this nine, Randy never led, but battled back to tie the match three times. In fact, neither player ever led by more than one hole during the entire match. 

Randy drew even with a chip-in birdie on the par-5 12th. However, Dave rebounded to win the 14th. Randy pulled even again on the 15th, and the last three holes of the Timber nine were halved. Both players played tough down the stretch: Randy drained a 15 foot par putt on 17, but Dave calmly rolled in a 12 footer of his own to halve the hole.  

The two contestants started their sudden-death playoff on the Trail nine, and Randy took his first lead of the match (and captured the title) on the first hole. Dave was victimized by the narrow course as his second shot went into the hazard.

 Congratulations to Randy and Dave for great clutch golf this year, and thanks to everyone who participated in the largest TBI Match Play tournament to date!
