Chris Hermsen and son Cory
Hermsen captured the 2005 TBI Best Ball Championship with an eight under par
63 at Lake Spanaway Golf Course. This was Chris’s second TBI Best Ball title
(he also won in 2002), and first with son Cory. Rick Berg and Tom Birmingham
finished two strokes back at 65.
After a bogey on the first
hole, Chris and Cory caught fire and birdied 6 of the next 8 holes, finishing
the front nine with a 5 under par 31. They
kept the pressure on, reaching nine under par after a birdie on the par three
17th (their fourth birdie on a par three). A bogey at eighteen was
their only back nine stumble, but with a comfortable lead by then, it was no
issue.
Rick Berg and Tom Birmingham
also opened with a front nine 31, but parred their last 5 holes and managed
only a back nine 34. This was good for second place all alone, one stroke
ahead of Mick Tovey and Mark Steiner, who opened the back nine with three
birdies, but staggered home even par on the last six holes, done in by a bogey
at 15.
Mark Tovey and Brian Tovey
made the turn tied for the lead with a five under 31, but a triple bogey 7 at
#10 extinguished their chances. Mark chipped in for birdie at #14 (a net
‘1”, their second eagle), but it was too late.
Chris Tovey and Ryan Stowers
never really got it going until the 18th, when they made eagle with
Chris’s natural birdie. Chris and Ryan finished tied with Mark and Brian at
67.
Kevin Denton and Steve Denton birdied the first four holes, but played
the remaining 14 holes in +1 to finish at 68.
Rick Berg won Closest to the
Pin on #3. Ryan Stowers won on #6. Cory Hermsen won KP on number 14. Mark
Steiner was closest to on the 17th.
Cory Hermsen captured long drive honors on #16 with a prodigious drive
of close to 320 yards.
Rick Berg shot the lowest
score with an 82. Other fine rounds were turned in by Cory Hermsen (84) and
Chris Tovey (90). Click here
