Chris Hermsen and Dan Bauer won the 2002 Best Ball
Championship with a record twelve under par 59. Their 30-29
masterpiece was three strokes better than the winning score from the
previous two years.
Chris and Dan eagled #9 as Chris made a natural birdie to post a
front nine 30. They did not falter and closed with a 29 coming in,
including five straight birdies. This was easily the best back nine
score of the day. Stuck in a two way tie for second at –9 were
Chris Tovey/Ryan Stowers and Dan Kwong/John White.
Both second place finishers made the turn at seven under par 29, but
couldn’t keep it going on the back nine. Chris and Ryan opened
with six threes and a two on their first eight holes. Despite
birdieing two of the last three holes, they could only manage two
(33) under on the back nine. Dan and John strung together five
straight front nine birdies to make the turn at 29, but also cooled
to a 33 on the back.
Tom Birmingham and
Marci Solis also eagled #9 on their way to a front nine 30. After a
birdie at the tough 10th hole, they were in the hunt, but
lost ground the rest of the way. A back nine 37 left them at four
under.
Dan Bauer also won
Closest to the Pin on #3. Steve Skibbs hit his shot to within 6”
on #6 to win the prize on that hole. Mike Tovey was closest to on
the short 14th, and Mark Steiner won KP on #17. Steve
Skibbs won long drive honors on #16.
Low Gross went to
Dan Bauer with an 80. Other fine rounds were turned in by Steve
Skibbs with an 81, Rick Berg (83), Steve Stoyles (84), Chris Tovey
(84), Kevin Denton (86), and Shawn Tovey (87).
